Pinball transitions: exploring the school-to-work transitions of ‘the missing middle’

چکیده
This paper responds to the call for more research on ‘missing middle’ by reporting findings of a small-scale qualitative longitudinal study in North England exploring labour market transitions young people completing compulsory schooling with mid-level qualifications and seeking employment. It found that participants desired training which aligned their skills, interests future work intentions. Participants were drawn seek apprenticeships because they offered ‘earning learning’ real-life environment. However, vast majority, not available, so turned college articulate choices gain work-related training. Qualifications gained order leverage job help them achieve ‘getting on’ work. often period ‘pinballing’ between ambitions reality ensued due lack desirable quality available. The majority still resisting ‘going nowhere’ making efforts when interviewed, however, some had stopped effort resigned themselves on-going poor process biographicity was, them, reconciliation low-quality

School-to-Work Transitions in Mongolia
Relatively little is known about the youth labour market in Mongolia. This report addresses the issue by taking advantage of a recent ad hoc School To Work Survey (STWS) on young people aged 15-29 years carried out in 2006 by the National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSO) with the International Labour Office’s (ILO) financial and technical assistance. Chapter 1 studies the macroeconomic cond...
متن کاملExploring transitions and work-life balance In the digital era
Scholars in the field of work-life balance (WLB) argue that individuals perform different role identities (e.g. parent, worker) within the different domains (e.g. family, work) of their life; and that these domains are separated by boundaries (Clark, 2000). There is an emerging view in the literature that information and communication technologies (ICTs) may influence both the way these boundar...
متن کاملTWO PHOTON TRANSITIONS IN THE OPTOGALVANIC SPECTRUM OF NEON
Seventeen two-photon transitions for neon have been observed in the 580- 635 nm spectral region for use in the spectroscopic study of its higher excited levels, which are not accessible by one-photon absorption. To compare the two and one-photon absorption signals originating from the same lower level, an effort was made to record single-photon optogalvanic spectrum in the available wavele...
متن کاملBumpy Rides: School to Work Transitions in South Africa
Bumpy Rides: School to Work Transitions in South Africa Re-enrollment in school following a period of dropout is a common feature of the South African school to work transition that has been largely ignored in both the literature on South Africa and the wider literature on sequential schooling choice. In this paper, I quantify the importance of the option to re-enroll in the school to work tran...
متن کاملNUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF THE PHASE TRANSITIONS IN CLUSTERS
We have studied the phase transitions in atomic clusters by molecular dynamics simulation, assuming Lennard-Jones interatomic pair potential. Calculations are performed by DAP parallel computer. The results are analyzed by simulating their orientational distribution plots (dot-plot), and neutron diffraction patterns. It is shown that all the main features of the bulk phase transitions are e...
